Christian Louboutin Chester Fille Suede Booties, £725
Peep toe boots aren’t normally my kinda thing, mostly because there never really seems to be an appropriate time to wear them. It’s that old problem: if it’s cold enough for boots, it’s too cold for peep toes; and if it’s warm enough for peep toes, then who wants to wear boots?
The answer to this problem, of course, is simply to wear tights underneath the boots. That’s still not quite enough to make me want to buy a pair, and I don’t think you’ll ever convince me that any given pair of peep-toe boots wouldn’t look better with the toe covered up, but regardless of my own thoughts on the matter, it seems the style is here to stay. Which brings me to Christian Louboutin’s ‘Chester Fille’ suede booties.
These shoe boots have such an amazing shape (There’s that ‘apostrophe’ heel again!) that I didn’t even notice the peep toe at first. By the time I did notice it, I was already far too enamoured by the bright pink suede and the super-curvy upper to worry about pesky little details like how and when I might wear them – or even the fact that they cost £725. Gulp. Nope, I was much too busy admiring them, from the arc of the upper (That deep v-shape, by the way, doesn’t just look pretty: it’ll also help elongate the leg, helping to avoid the “stumpifying” effect some shoe boots can have), to the tip of the 120mm stiletto heel.
I’ll be honest: these aren’t my favourite Louboutins of all time, and I STILL think they’d look better without the peep toe, but I’ve featured lots of blacks and nudes in the Friday Fix slot lately – and a lot of classic pumps, too – and they do say a change is as good as a rest!
